Saddened by the loss of life and the widespread destruction caused by the fires near Los Angeles, His Holiness Pope Francis assures you and the communities affected by this tragedy of his spiritual closeness. Entrusting the souls of the deceased to the loving mercy of almighty God, his Holiness sends his heartfelt condolences to those who mourn their loss. He likewise prays for the relief efforts of the emergency services personnel , and imparts his blessing to all as a pledge of consolation and strength in the Lord. - His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin on behalf of His Holiness Pope Francis (Click here to view the letter)
Please keep praying for all those suffering in the wildfires sweeping through southern California. My heart goes out to our neighbors who have lost their homes and livelihoods. Let’s pray for them and let’s pray for our firefighters and first responders. May God keep all of our brothers and sisters safe and bring end to these fires! – Archbishop Jose Gomez
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
May the Peace of Christ reign in our hearts.
As we wade through the devastating effects of the fires in the Palisades and other areas of the greater Los Angeles area, I want to assure you of my heartfelt prayers and support as well as those of the staff of the Our Lady of Angels Regional office. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by these fires, most especially to those who have lost their homes and businesses. This has been tragic.
As a region our heartfelt prayers are especially with Msgr. Kidney and the community of Corpus Christi who lost their beloved church in the Palisades fire. While the physical church may be gone, the spiritual temple that he and his staff have built as a Catholic community will be their strength as they reunite. The Lord Jesus in the Eucharist will continue to accompany them during these challenging times of renewal.
As we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord this Sunday, may we be renewed by the source of our life in Christ Jesus, namely, our Baptism. As we celebrate the Eucharist may we be strengthened in our mission to build a community of love and mercy - one that transcends the physical boundaries of a church building. Indeed, may we be one in Christ Jesus. May we be the Temple of the Lord in the midst of this devastation.
Again, be assured of my prayers and those staff during these challenging times.
May God bless you!
